Its a great place to meet and drink without worrying about a roudy group, always very respectful and the staff is great!
Very nice night out. We have lived within 2 miles of this restaurant for many years but had never visited. We chose last night to change that. It was well worth it. We were seated quickly. The waitperson arrived promply taking our drink order while providing sufficient time to allow a complete review of the menu. I had the pea soup of the day which was excellent. I followed with the sizzeling sirloin. It was tender and flavorful along with broccoli with garlic on the side. Had I known that the meal came with a large serving of mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables I would not have ordered the broccoli. There was plenty of food and all of it good. My wife had a salad and a crusted fish dish which she said was delicious. We were both extremely satisfied with the quality and quantity of the meal and the pleasantness of the staff. The only thing which prevented me from awarding 5 stars was the fact that the delivery of the meal was a little slow, This did not detract from the tastiness of the meal or the attentikveness of the staff. We will definitely go back.
Awful customer service!!.
I'm giving Blackthorn one star simply because of their outdoor patio (which is nice in the summer) and how good natured and friendly the bouncers are.
I tried setting up a little get together here for my birthday, about 15-20 people. There were two people who were just shy of 21. I figured that would be a bit of an issue since after 10, Blackthorn is 21+. So I called ahead of time and spoke to the manager, Scott, who assured me that my two friends would be given wristbands and just needed to stay away from the bar. Essentially, it would be no big deal.
Wrong.
When we arrived the other manager, Ollie (Ali?), was incredibly rude to not only me but to my friends. He got right up into my face and lectured me on the protocol of his bar, how he could be fined $10k for even letting us inside the door, etc. etc. Then in front of the entire bar he pulled my friends out into the vestibule and continued his rather loud lecture.
He was completely unprofessional as a manager and an extremely rude person in general. To top it off, the one drink I managed to buy was not only mediocre but overpriced.
If you'd like to go there just to say that you have, be my guest. Otherwise, I'd stay far away from this not-even-Irish-Jersey-Shore-wannabe-infested Irish pub.
Our GM Ali was just trying to reiterate that it is state law that anyone under 21 not be permitted into the bar. You are interpreting this as rude but we are trying to protect out liquor license. Without that we have no business and no jobs for our employees. This is an area that we do not take lightly.
*We ARE AN AUTHENTIC Irish pub! From the imported Irish meats to the real photos of my father?s farm on the walls to the old used farm tools hanging above the bar!
Quick bite and a beer. Stopped by with some friends on the way back to NYC for a burger and quick beer. Ended up staying for three hours! The menu was great ! I went with traditional Irish Bangors n Mash and my buddies had burgers at the bar. Bartenders and waitresses were great ! Food superb! The atmosphere was loud but not crazy, and friendly. Cant wait to go back to NJ!
Sunday at Blackthorn. What a great surprise on Sunday. We went in for "brunch" and found out that this awesome Irish "Rock" Band was playing outside at the tiki bar. We had a great time! The band called Bloody Callan was "bloody fantastic" ]and I really hope they come to Blackthorn to play again. Thanks for a fantastic Sunday and great food and COLD delecious beer!
Thanks for your kind words, we apprecieate your business :-)
NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE.
I was in for dinner with friends and paid using my debit card. BIG MISTAKE....
It took the waiter 4 TIMES to process the bill correctly. Needless to say, there was a hold on the account for $287.81 dollars (mistakes by Blackthorn). When I called and spoke to Eugene, he proceed to explain the process. Well, during the conversation, he accused me of being rude and implied that I said this was done on purpose. (Which I was not!) I thank him or a life lesson, which comes at any age.. :)
The "Manager" was just a matter of fact....there is no reason to go to blackthorns when there are other BETTER restaurants out there, I do eat out a lot and pay with a debit card, I can't remember this happening.
Also, the food was ok but pricey..
need to learn & understade how your debit card works... and take any issue up with you bank
