In the late 19th century, the Prospect Tavern housed a coal company, part of the bustling railroad industry located just yards away. Today
the 1880s Tudor building comfortably seats 50 patrons in the dining room, while the 60-foot bar and outdoor patio, make the tavern the preferred place for a romantic dinner or to enjoy the perfect pint. The interior of the tavern boasts a back-wall, stone fireplace where our guests can enjoy the comfort of a warm fire in the winter months. Large vaulted ceilings and magnificent Pennsylvania Bluestone floors give the atmosphere at Prospect Tavern a warm and rustic feel. Prospect Tavern brings the old coal house into the 21st century with state of the art taps and cooling systems that refrigerate the beer from the keg to your glass.

Went here with my family for a late dinner on a Friday night. We were initially a little put off by the noise at the bar but what can one expect at ten on a Friday? Service was excellent, and food came out hot and as ordered. The artichoke and spinach dip was delicious, and when we asked for more bread/chips it was brought out quickly. Will return in the future.
Food and service was great. Don't leave without trying the Reuben and a Guinness. Will definitely be back soon!
This place has an overall great atmosphere. They really have a great feel to it where the employees know your name. The place has really captured the tavern environment that is hard to come by nowadays. I like this place because of that aspect...along with the good food and drinks. I would defiantly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a great American cuisine!
A great place for Sunday afternoons and every other day of the week. Was there all day this past Sunday with Anthony behind the bar making awesome Bloody Marys! When it came time to eat we had the Sunday Pasta... wow. It was delicious... fresh rigatoni in garlic/basil tomato sauce.. I need to steal that sauce recipe! did I mention the free wings and hot dogs while the game was on
If you decide to visit prospect tavern make sure you go on karaoke night. I was meeting a college friend who I hadn't seen in five years. She had just recently moved to Madison and suggested Prospect Tavern for dinner. I had never been and when we got there we had to wait a half hour to be seated, which I was not happy about, but they have a cute bar that helped pass the time. When we were finally called we were starving. Well it was certainly worth the wait! I had a crab combo appetizer, which was ok, but my Cajun cowboy steak may have been the best I ever had. After completely stuffing ourselves with wine and drinks we were feeling pretty tired and started slowly saying our good byes. All of a sudden we here a dj announce it is karaoke night, and we just stop and look at each other. It was like we were in college again. We decided to sing and next thing you know it was last call. Luckily my friend is in walking distance lol. Anyways, we had a blast and promised each other we would make this an annual event.
My New Watering Hole!.
I don't know what there is not to like about Prospect Tavern. There is an outside balcony, cheap beers starting at like $3, and seriously good food. I had the bar pizzas there and I won't eat one anywhere else. The dough was delicious and the crust was crispy. The bartender told me the pizzas are new, and they are $4 on monday night. Can't beat that deal!
I just read the unfavorable review by (TP86)....
I agree that bartender wasn't very nice, althought the rest of the staff is fun and pleasant. I think the one with the tattoos works at Rocco's last I heard.,.
Don't ever go to prospect tavern. the worst bartender I've ever encountered. she was talking about us under her breath, or so she thought and it took 45 minutes to get a beer even though there were only about 15 people total in the bar, and myself and my friends made up half of that number. if you do go there, just hope you don't get the female bartender with the tattoo on her chest and shoulder
