The Roofing Police should be arrested!!. I used these guys back in November of 2010 and I can't believe they are still in business. They do the same technique most of the time, which is to create urgency by saying something very dangerous is wrong with your chimney/furnace/roof or whatever they can come up with. The owner John is a foul mouthed, lying skunk who should be forbidden from working with the public.

I recently received a letter from the NJ Office of the Attorney General. The are under ongoing investigations.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!!!

RUN! THESE GUYS ARE FRAUDS!. Two guys from this company (which I found in my local Westchester County Yellow Pages and claimed to be "NY & NJ Licensed") showed up at my house unannounced on a Saturday night to replace my stainless steel chimney chase cover and chimney cap in the rain when I had agreed with the owner (who came by my house in a car dressed up to look like a cop car that morning) for him to begin the job the next day between 9-11am when the weather was supposed to be nice...and it was. I paid his guys $1,000 cash when they came back Sun. morning to collect payment. The next week after rain kept coming in my chimney and showing up on my walls, I contacted the Westchester County Dept. of Consumer Protection who said this company is NOT LICENSED in Westchester County and operated illegally on my chimney. They also said it was unlikely someone could fabricate a stainless steel chimney chase and cap on the spot (which every other company I spoke to said would take 1-2 weeks for them to order) and that it should only cost between $400-$800. The Dept. of Consumer Protection told me they have issued multiple fines against the owner and this company (which also does business as A-1 AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION) by mail to two different addresses (one in Roselle Park, NJ and one in Brooklyn, NY where the owner said to send them) but unfortunately the mail keeps getting returned to sender. (I know. There's a total shocker, right?) Anyway, I am still getting tons of water coming through the chimney everytime it rains staining my wall and have had a local inspection done stating the following: "Do not use the fireplace! Attached are pictures of a cap which is blocking the outer airspace which will lead to a chimney fire. The chase cover is "seemed" together, which will allow water to enter chase. And is not pitched to allow water to run off. An aluminum sleeve is used to attach the cap to the flue, it must be all stainless steel. As is, is not to code." I have since contacted this company via email and never heard back, and most recently over the phone when the owner ultimately hung up on me after I asked him if he could come look at the chimney or refund my money. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! THEY ARE TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS! They also do business as: ROOFING POLICE, CHIMNEY SQUAD & A-1 AMERICAN CONTRUCTION. They're motto is: "We Show Up!" (which they sure do...in the rain at night to work outside the day before the job is really supposed to happen?!!!) and "To Protect and Serve Your Construction Needs" (seriously, all that these guys are "Serving New Jersey & New York" is a bunch of junk.). DO NOT USE THEM! RUN!!!

Pros: They show up (but trust me you don't want them to)

Cons: Unlicensed, untrained, unpolite

BEWARE! I will be reporting them to BBB and the police. I scheduled for a Chimney Sweep and they came quickly.

John the owner called me and said I needed to install a liner in my chimney. He scared my mother and uncle that they will die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Mind you, I have carbon monoxide detectors everywhere and they never go off.

He tells me his pitch and how I need to spend $2000 right now. I told him I'm not going to be in the neighborhood anytime soon and he tells me we can't discuss it on Saturday because he can't get a permit(WHAT?). He further tries to scare us with carbon monoxide poisoning and the chimney falling apart and damaging the neighbor's property.

I make an emergency trip back home because I don't know what he did...at this point I'm very worried because it was becoming apparent that he is a scam artist.

When I got home the boiler was on and everything seemed fine. I wake up the next morning and find that the water was a little colder than usual. It turns out my hot water was running out because HE HAD SHUT IT OFF! He has no right to shut it off! I turned it back on, no problem. I inspect the boiler a bit more and see that the flue vent connector wasn't properly placed. THE SEAMS WERE OPEN & COULD'VE VENTED CARBON MONOXIDE! I immediately turned off the furnace and took the connector off. What do I see inside my chimney? IT WAS NEVER CLEANED! Why did I pay these guys?

It's a good thing I'm a licensed engineer and boiler operator and I knew how to fix these or I would've called him for immediate and expensive help. JOHN, THE OWNER WANTED A CALL BACK FOR THE PROBLEMS HE CREATED!

I should have researched the company before I contracted them to clean my chimney. Had I done so, I would've seen these terrible reviews and steered clear of them. Upon further research, I found that these guys go by other names.
