Ate This Week. My wife and I had a very nice experience in Montclair.

I ate some short ribs and she had a shrimp enchilada. Both were exceptional.

They seem to be doing a good job.

A fun time with some great eats!. I went into Mexicali Rose the other day and had a very enjoyable experience. The wait staff was very courteous and friendly. I ordered the Jose's tacos and was very satisfied. The portions are very large, and the value truely shows.

I would recommend Mexicali Rose to anyone looking to have a nice casual time with some friends or family in the beautiful downtown Montclair.

Not too my liking.. I have only eaten at Mexacali Rose once, and i hated it. The service was terrible and so was the food. Enough said.

Great setting. My lovely boyfriend and I frequent here often. Almost always we are seated promptly and served chips, dip and water right away. When the chips arrive, ask for the special "green sauce," its absolutely amazing with a spicier avocado kick. This is a BYOB wherein there's a liquor store right across the street. The specials are normally the same, so you can basically memorize the menu if you come here twice. Appetizer I love is the shrimp escondido, delicious shrimp served with 4 different types of cheeses, guac, and warm tortillas. The seafood is delicious, mango durango with everything on the side. If it is not on the side they will pile it on top and YOU WILL feel overwhelmed. We love this place, and if you will be having dinner late, it is a wonderful spot to go to for a b-day, with friends, or a hott date. The staff is absolutely terrific, from the hostess, to the mgr., to the service.

Atmosphere is wonderful. Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff was nice but the food was not satisfying in the least; what a shame since when you walk in you get the feeling that you are going to be served some authentic mexican food.

Shockingly abusive manager. After a dispute over an order that was not delivered after 1-1/2 hours, in which I asked for a discount or other compensation for the food they confirmed would be delivered cold, I spoke with Mike - the manager on Thursday night. Mike launched into a tirade when I asked for the cheese items that would certainly be ruined to be discounted. He insulted me and offered NOTHING, not even an apology, which the hostess had given me twice already admitting fault. I have 10 years experience in the restaurant industry and have never even heard of such aggressiveness. Had he offered me 10% or anything at all I would have been happy. His tone and abusive language led me to cancel the order entirely and hang up. He called me right back and screamed"THANKS FOR THE FREE FOOD, FA@%OT!"

Do yourself and your family a favor and never set foot in or order from this place again. This is unacceptable behavior from any human being let alone a manager of a public establishment who was completely unprovoked. The B B Bureau has been notified...I only wish I could do more.

Never again. Mexicali Rose use to be one of my favorites restaurants but not anymore. Since they change owners is not the same, the food have change and to make it worse the manager is just a pain. I was sitting with my husband outside trying to have a great time and just to see the way the manager was treating the waitress (just ruing my night). After I have my dinner I try to talk to the manager and let him know that he had very good workers and that he should be more considerate with them and the answer that I got from him was (THey can leave I don't care). and after that he told me (Don't take the glass with you) like I'm going to still it. The owners better put that manager in the place or they will lose a lot of people.

Hit and miss.. We loved the ambience at Mexicali Rose and there's a lot to look at while you're waiting for your food. The menu is packed with a lot to choose from but it's WHAT you choose that can be hit or miss. My chicken breast, although covered with a delicious sauce, was very dry and the rice too salty. Waiter had to be summoned twice for us to receive the complimentary chip and salsa(they were delicious) and to wipe the table. My friend's fajitas were delicious. Not the best Tex Mex but not the worst I've ever had.

Not the same. I am so dissapointed in this place since the original owner, Dominick sold it. The food quality has really gone downhill. The people are nice, but it's just not the same anymore.
