Ambiance. The Thai salad did not seem fresh. Red snapper was good. The spicy shrimp soup was fantastic. Overall good and we wiill be back, just needed more variety on the menu. Still looking for a Thai restaurant like the ones in LA with great variety and well prepared food.

Mediocre. Stay away from the shrimp.. From the start, I thought it strange that the hostess forced us to decide at the restaurant entrance if we wanted to see the wine menu. Shouldn't they automatically present me with a wine menu when I am seated? Then we are handed two menus, a paper four page menu and a one plastic menu which are similar but not exactly the same. I guess they wanted to permanently add items to the original menu but did not want to spend money to redo the entire 4 page menu.

The whole red snapper ($23.00) was cooked in a tasty chili paste, but the deep fried fish was dry. My friend sent her entree back to the kitchen, Shrimp Cellophane Noodles, because it was not presented as described. This item was removed from the bill. There was no sauce or broth, the shrimp was mushy, and large shreds of ginger intertwined in the noodles had to be removed by hand. Ginger taste overpowered the dish. The steamed dumplings (four for $9.00) were below average, filled with tiny tasteless popcorn shrimp. We enjoyed the dessert, mixed fruit in Sabayon, $8.00 (a creamy vanilla sauce).

Terrible Customer Service. I've been to several restaurants in the area, and Saturday night was my first time at Thai Chef. It wasn't too crowded, and they seated us quickly. We got our menus as soon as we sat down, but it took about 20 minutes for anyone to come to our table to just take the order. The appetizers came out half hour later and dinner took over an hour. We asked for silverware, and the waitress brought back one spoon. The food was definitely not as good as the other Thai place down the street. The only thing that came out quickly was the check. I was very disappointed in the service considering it wasn't even that crowded. Save yourself the frustration, and just go to Tuptim Thai that?s just 1 or 2 blocks down.
