Great Special Occasion Restaurant.
My wife and I went to Scalini Fedeli for our second wedding anniversary. I was a little skeptical because 5 of the 7 first courses on the menu on their website feature mushrooms which I'm not a big fan of. But we decided to try it out after hearing a lot of great things about it. We were definitely very impressed. I ordered a pasta dish with a game sauce made with venison, hare, Barolo wine, and chocolate. It was fantastic. The pasta was perfect and the bits of game meats were chopped so finely that there were pieces in every bite. My wife ordered the Ecuadorian shrimp in a roma tomato sauce with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto wrapped melon. The sauce was very light and tasty and the shrimp were very sweet. For the second course I ordered the sliced duck breast with foie gras. It was hands down the best duck I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly, was tender with a nice crisp skin. My wife ordered the filet mignon and we were both shocked by the two large filets that were brought out to her.
While what we ordered was fantastic, we were both extra surprised by all of the little in-between courses that were brought. I was initially worried going here because sometimes you leave these types of places still hungry but not at Scalini Fedeli. Aside from what we ordered we were each brought a shrimp on a bed of mushrooms, focacia with onion, pea soup (which was one of the best pea soups I've ever had), and a sorbet between the second course and dessert. The only disappointing thing that we had all night was the sorbet. It was a lime sorbet that was way too tart for both of us. Neither could stand taking more than two bites of it.
We were also shocked by the price which wasn't that bad considering the amount of food we had. I believe the bill came to under $140 including one drink for me. I didn't think it was too bad considering the amount and quality of the food. Maybe not for every weekend dining, but we're definitely going to return for our next special occasion

DO NOT GO THERE! Try Serenade across the street instead..
This used to be my favorite local restaurant. My husband and I celebrated many special occasions at Scalini and thought the bad food and service six months ago were only an accident. Well, we were wrong... We visited the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and left promising never to come back. What happens when you send your foie gras back because it is undercooked (ice cold center)? First you are told that is how it is supposed to be served. (Oh yeah, they tell the customer that they wrong). Then, you get back the same piece you had sent back to the kitchen, but now it is BURNED (like black burnt chunks of coal). As my husband said: "Are we at a diner? I have never seen a restaurant cook the same piece of meat that was sent back."
Anyway, after sending the foie gras back a second time, we were doomed. I must admit the duck was pretty good, but the cheese platter... awful! and the biscotti and chocolate at the end of the meal? They tasted stale.
Service was also pretty bad - we were ignored most of the time.
The whole experience was terrible and paying $240 for dinner for 2 at Scalini was heart breaking
The basics: DO NOT GO THERE! Try Serenade across the street.

Worth the Wait!.
! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. It took almost 3 months to get a Saturday night reservation but it was well worth the wait. The food was phenomenal and the service was attentive but not overbearing. I can't wait to try out the Tribeca location!
